EU AI Act Compliance for Manufacturing & Industrial AI
AI embedded as safety components in machinery, lifts, medical devices, and pressure equipment falls under Annex I high-risk categories, often requiring third-party conformity assessment.
Manufacturers integrating AI into products face a distinct compliance path under the EU AI Act. When AI functions as a safety component in products covered by EU harmonisation legislation (machinery under Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, lifts, toys, medical devices, etc.), the system is classified as high-risk under Annex I, with Chapter III duties applying from 2 August 2028. Convenience or quality-control AI that is not a safety component is out of that pathway (Article 6(1a)).
